I Concerti

The Great Northern X nasce, nell’estate del 2009, a Montagnana (PD), dalla fusione di Art of Wind (progetto solista di Marco Degli Esposti) e Flap (trio strumentale): entrambi nel roster di In The Bottle. TGNX è un po’ terreno di incontro tra scrittura e voce tendenzialmente folk-psichedeliche, dilatazioni surreali e arrangiamenti post-rock, di deriva anni '90. Il suono nasce da un'impostazione più elettrica che acustica, di cui il volume risulta essere sin da principio il protagonista, una costante essenziale nel delineare la struttura dei brani: un po’ la chiave, si intende. Tra le canzoni non c’è filo conduttore, anche se un immaginario comune è evidente e ritorna di continuo.

L’album ha preso forma nel corso del 2010 ed è stato registrato a marzo 2011, in presa diretta, nell’arco di due giornate, all'Igloo Audio Factory di Correggio. Al mixer, per l’occasione: Enrico Baraldi, Luca Verzelloni e Andrea Sollo Sologni. I brani - tutti originali e inediti - sono stati poi mixati in analogico dallo stesso staff, affinché il disco rispecchiasse il più possibile la resa live e inquadrasse un certo suono in quel preciso momento.

Il mastering è stato affidato al Carl Saff Mastering di Chicago, Illinois.

"It seems as though since the band DEVO has become popular again in today's post-ironic age (or whatever this age is supposed to be) there's been lots of bands dressed-up in bizarre costumes, such as the PeelanderZ and (I'm assuming) this new band from Austria called simply "Ni". In this case, this band prefer Led Zeppelin-style spacesuits. And yet this music is heavy, but more in a discordant King Crimson style... But Ni do have talent to go along with their image. Especially on "Vershwindikovskli", which dares to go where most musicians fear to tread. It's pretty amazing that they perform this largely instrumental music at such breakneck speed. There's even a bit of hyper-velocity Bossa Nova which reminds me of Can except on bad amphetamines. There's some really noisy experiments with ring modulation somewhere in the mix as well. This is a very well done debut disc by an up-in-coming band that may have some things in store. If Ni actually play live in their little spacesuits I'd imagine they'd be huge in the United States."
